Tim Johnston


As the Asia Program Director, Tim Johnston manages the organisation’s research, analysis and policy prescription in the Asia region. Before joining Crisis Group, he worked as a foreign correspondent in Asia for more than 20 years, reporting extensively for media including the Financial Times, the International Herald Tribune and Reuters on countries such as Afghanistan, East Timor, Indonesia, Myanmar and Thailand, among others. His most recent role was Head of News of the Asia-Pacific region at HSBC. Based in Sydney, Tim has significant presence in the Beijing and Islamabad Project Offices, as well as in the field.
