Project Director, Central Asia

Deirdre Tynan is the Central Asia Project Director since 2012. Based in Bishkek, she oversees research and advocacy activities in Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan, Uzbekistan and with the region's international partners including Russia, the EU and the U.S.

Deirdre worked as an award winning news investigative reporter 1999-2012. She holds a MA in journalism from New York University. She started work in Northern Ireland and has reported from across Central Asia including covering the Tulip Revolution in Kyrgyzstan, violence in Andijan, Uzbekistan, both in 2005, and post-election Turkmenistan in 2007. Between 2010-2012 she investigated U.S. fuel contracting and logistics across the region.
